Thai CP Group invests in Ryazan Region

Company Banner Infant Dairy Products, is a joint venture of Thailand's largest conglomerate Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group), and the Chinese company BannerDairy, intends to invest $ 1 billion in the construction of dairy complex in the Ryazan region.

This is reported by Vedomosti with reference to the Director General of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (CERF) Kirill Dmitriev and representative of the SP Group.

According to Dmitriev, investments in the project will also be made by investors from the Middle East. Dmitriev did not specify the exact composition of investors and did not disclose the total amount of investments. The general director of RFPI asserts that the complex will become a full cycle production, from raw materials to finished products. It is assumed that the complex will include dairy farms with 80 thousand cows of milking flocks, 40-60 thousand hectares of agricultural land for growing cereals and perennials, a feed mill, and a processing plant with a capacity of up to 400 thousand tons of finished dairy products per year. It is planned that the company will be managed by the Thai CP Group, and the project implementation period will be 3-5 years.

If the project is implemented, the enterprise will become the largest producer of raw milk in Russia with a production volume of 300-350 thousand tons per year after the launch of the first stage, said Artem Belov, Executive Director of the National Union of Milk Producers (Soyuzmoloko). For comparison, the largest dairy complex - Agrocomplex. NI Tkachev, owned by the family of Russian Minister of Agriculture Alexander Tkachev, produces 203 thousand tons per year (data of Soyuzmolok). Econiva's second-line company, German businessman Stefan Dürr, produces 180 thousand tonnes of milk. At the same time, as Belov notes, the growth potential of the dairy market in Russia is still huge, despite the current decline in consumption: in Russia, only 240 kg of dairy products per capita are consumed, with WHO recommended norms in 330 kg.

It is expected that the agreement on the creation of the cluster will be signed in the presence of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Thailand Prayut Chan-Och, whose talks are scheduled for 18 May in St. Petersburg.
